Cllr James WrightEaton Liberal Democrat Councillors James Wright and Rosalind Wright joined a "Community Work Day" recently, to help cut down overgrowing vegetation along the hedge on the Ipswich Road (Eaton Rise).

Commenting, Cllr James Wright (pictured right) said:

"It was great to see so many people coming out, despite the stop-start showers and the cold, and really getting stuck in. Between us, we had enough equipment to make a real difference to the hedge, but, more importantly, the community came together to take action on an immediate problem in a very direct and physical way."

Cllr Rosalind Wright added:

"This sort of activity demonstrates the success of a partnership between the local community and the Council. Working with the City Council's arboricultural services, Eaton Rise Residents Association managed to mobilise a formidable team of helpers. And I strongly believe this is the way forward for community services. Whether we like it or not, there are limits to council services. Local residents know the problems, what needs to be done and have the motivation to see problems resolved. What's more: it's fun to work as a team and catch up with people while you work!"

The Community Work Day took place on Saturday 25th September 2010.
