Lib Dem City Councillors are continuing to ask questions as the Greyhound Opening housing scandal continues. Nearly three years on from the scandal the site still remains boarded up.
Commenting Leader of the Norwich Lib Dems Cllr Judith Lubbock (pictured at the site) said "I am appalled that this valuable housing site is still derelict after all this time. At this time of year when one focuses on those who are either homeless or inadequately housed why has Norwich City Council allowed this shameful waste? I wonder how much longer we have to wait to see some action taken.
"One also questions why the dwellings were demolished without an achievable development plan. The buildings could have been home to someone. They were said to be substandard but that didn't stop council officers housing themselves there for months.
"I think they were demolished to get rid of the embarrassment to the council and a site that damaged the reputation of the City Council and the Labour administration."
"The embarrassment continues and will do so while the site remains vacant."
Early in 2009 elderly residents were moved out of sheltered housing scheme as it was thought to be sub-standard. Only weeks later officers of Norwich City Council moved themselves in without senior officers knowing about it. This scandal was responsible for the Labour run City Council being rated zero for its housing services.
