Bike Hire Scheme
Norwich Lib Dems are continuing their work to promote a cycle hire scheme for Norwich.
Cllr Judith Lubbock, Norwich Liberal Democrat Transport Spokesperson, outlines the latest developments:
"At a recent council meeting the Norwich Liberal Democrats put forward the idea of a cycle hire scheme for Norwich. It would be one way of keeping Norwich decongested, keeping riders fit and saving money at the same time.
"A presentation from a company called OYBikes, which has set up cycle hire schemes in London, Southampton and Reading, has been arranged. Their presentation will include one of their bikes and a rental point. It will take place on Tuesday 14th October at City Hall at 5.30pm.
"Norwich already has a good number of cyclists but we need to do more to encourage others to get on their bike. I hope that businesses, education providers, transport operators and the Labour run City Council will attend and see what part they can play in such a scheme.
"At a time when Norwich, courtesy of Emma Pooley, and the country are flushed with cycling success at the Olympics we need to seriously look at a scheme which would encourage more people to take to the saddle."
