Cllr Jill Surridge
Months of perseverance have paid off for Thorpe Hamlet Liberal Democrat councillor, Jill Surridge, who has managed to get the unsafe condition of the Canary View site rectified.
The site, which has been a problem since last summer, has now been made safe with the erection of eight foot hoardings and double gates, and the footpath has been reinstated for public use between Carrow Road and Cozens Road.
"Last June I was contacted by one of the Harbour triangle residents who expressed grave concerns with the condition of the Canary View site," said Cllr Surridge. "I visited the site and saw that her complaints of fly tipping and unauthorised parking were correct. On top of this the fencing that had been erected had fallen down and there was a danger to pedestrians using Carrow Road. Unfortunately, despite months of trying it has taken until now for action to be taken, but it does show what can happen if people work together."
Cllr Surridge contacted various departments in City Hall, and the agent acting on behalf of the site owner, but nothing happened. It was not until she involved the Health & Safety Executive that the owner took some action.
