A Town Close Councillor has welcomed the establishment of a car club as good for Norwich and the environment.
Cllr Chris Thomas
CarClub now has cars based in the 'Golden Triangle' area of Norwich. Chris Thomas, who is a Liberal Democrat Councillor for Town Close Ward, where the cars are currently parked in York Street & Leicester Street.
Two cars will operate in York Street (near Unthank Road) and another two will be located in Gloucester Street, near to the junction with Leicester Street. This is in addition to the car already available at the UEA.
The Car Club is a partnership between CityCarClub and Norwich City Council and is part of the Civitas Project, a EU financed project promoting cleaner and better transport in cities. The Liberal Democrats actively promoted the Civitas Project when in office, with Cllr Judith Lubbock attending a conference in Rotterdam.
Cllr. Chris Thomas commented "I am extremely pleased to see the car club up and running in Norwich and hope it will be as successful as it has been in other cities such as Bristol and Edinburgh. It will be an opportunity for residents to have access to a car without the drawbacks of owning one."
CityCar claim that for every car they provide it takes 7
privately owned cars off the street.
